Mitsubishi Steel Mfg. Co., Ltd. celebrated the 100th anniversary of its Hirota Works in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, by holding a ceremony on May 18 at the Aizuwakamatsu Washington Hotel.
Hirota Works began manufacturing electric furnace steel ingots in 1924, following its acquisition from Fujita Mining Co., Ltd. (now DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd.) as the Hirota Steel Works. It then transitioned through stages as "Mitsubishi Steel Mfg. Co., Ltd. Hirota Works," and "Ryoukou Cast Steel Mfg.," before relaunching in April 2005 as "Mitsubishi Steel Mfg. Co., Ltd. Hirota Works." Currently, the site is considering capital investment to expand sales of Special Alloy Powders, a strategic business area.
The ceremony welcomed the participation of 102 individuals, including Chairman Sato, President Yamaguchi, other corporate executives, Hirota Works senior staff, employees, and members of the Ryouhou-kai (Cooperation Association). During the event, Hirota Works Manager Kobayashi expressed gratitude for the past and committed to further development for the future. President Yamaguchi then thanked the Ryouhou-kai, employees, and retirees, attributing the 100-year milestone to their efforts.
On its centennial, Hirota Works aims to meet customer needs more than ever by advancing technological capabilities, promoting product development, and contributing to a sustainable society through environmental consideration and social contribution activities.
