MITSUBISHI STEEL CO., LTD.

May 1919

Established as Nagasaki Steel Works of Mitsubishi Shipbuilding & Engineering Co., Ltd. and commenced manufacturing steel castings and forgings. April 1917 Tokyo Spring Works (established in 1904), the first spring manufacturer in Japan, and Tokyo Steel Works (established in 1916) merged into Tokyo Steel Co., Ltd.
   
April 1934 Changed name to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.
May 1924 Bought up Hirota Steel Works and Commenced manufacture of steels.
       
April 1937 Became independent from Nagasaki Shipbuilding & Engineering Works and started out as Nagasaki Steel Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.  December 1940  Changed name to Mitsubishi Steel Co., Ltd.
       
August 1942 Mitsubishi Steel Mfg. Co., Ltd. established to succeed Nagasaki Steel Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. August 1941 Fukagawa Steel Works newly established.

Two Mitsubishi companies merged into Mitsubishi Steel Mfg. Co., Ltd.
   
December 1949 Nagasaki Steel Mfg. Co., Ltd. and Tokyo Steel Co., Ltd., newly organized in conformity with the Enterprises Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Law.
December 1949 Nagasaki Steel Mfg. Co., Ltd. took over operations of Nagasaki Steel Works of former Mitsubishi Steel Mfg. Co., Ltd. @ December 1949 Tokyo Steel Co., Ltd. took over operations of Ohjima Works, Fukagawa Steel Works and Hirota Steel Works.
       
June 1953 Changed name to Mitsubishi Steel Mfg. Co., Ltd. December 1952 Changed name to Mitsubishi Steel Co., Ltd.
September 1963 Utsunomiya Works newly established.
February 1964 Two firms merged into Mitsubishi Steel Mfg. Co., Ltd.
   
April 1965 Ohjima Works and Fukagawa Steel Works combined into as Tokyo Works.
   
May 1967 Ichikawa Works newly established.
   
April 1970 Japan Casting & Forging Corporation established as a joint venture with Nippon Steel Corporation and other firms to produce large steel castings and forgings.
   
January 1975 Assembled Parts Division of Nagasaki Works (former Nagasaki Steel Works) was carved out and newly established as Mitsubishi Nagasaki Machinery Mfg. Co., Ltd. as a joint venture with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Bank and five other Mitsubishi organizations.
   
July 1986 Rockwell International Suspension Systems Company established in Canada for manufacturing and sales of automotive springs, as a venture with Rockwell International Corporation in the U.S. (Company name changed to Meritor Suspension Systems Company in October 1997.)
   
October 1991 Rockwell International Suspension Systems Company U.S., established in the U.S. for manufacturing and sales of automotive springs, as a venture with Rockwell International Corporation in the U.S. (Company name changed to Meritor Suspension Systems Company U.S. in October 1997.)
   
February 1993 Chiba Works newly established.
   
March 1994 Steel Bar Division of Tokyo Works transferred to Muroran City, and its production shifted to Mitsubishi Steel Muroran Inc. established by Mitsubishi Steel's 70% investment.
   
October 1994 Bangkok Magnet Corporation established in Thailand for manufacturing and sales of casting magnets, by acquiring the share of Bangkok Spring Industrial in Thailand. (Company name changed to MSM (Thailand) Co., Ltd. in October 2000.)
   
March 1999 Precision casting products operations for industrial gas turbine blades and vanes etc. transferred to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
   
August 2000

Precision Springs Cebu, Inc. and Precision Springs Manila, Inc. of Precision Springs Co., Ltd. made 100 percent subsidiaries in order to expand precision parts operations. (In July 2004, company names changed to MSM Cebu, Inc. and MSM Manila, Inc.)

   
September 2001 Ichikawa Works merged into Chiba Works.
   
December 2002 Precision casting production transferred completely to MSM (Thailand) Co., Ltd. from Utsunomiya Works.
   
December 2002 MSM Ningbo Co., Ltd. established in China for manufacturing and sales of precision assemblies.
   
April 2004 Acquired Human Electric Co., Ltd. a Electronics parts maker, in order to expand precision parts operations.
   
February 2006 MSM Ningbo Spring Co., Ltd. established in China for manufacturing and sales of Automotive Springs.
   
July 2009 PT MSM Indonesia established in Indonesia.
October 2006 Human Electric Co., Ltd, Acquired.
   
October 2009 Acquired JV partner's holding share of Meritor Suspension Systems Company and Meritor Suspension Systems Company U.S. , and name changed to MSSC CANADA and MSSC US.
     
December 2012   Utsunomiya Works is closed. 
     
April 2013   Integrated holding companies and operational companies in North America (the US and Canada), and changed the company names respectively to MSSC CANADA INC., MSSC US INC. and MSSC INC..
